The Town of Circle is seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to serve as our next Clerk/Treasurer. This position is responsible for all financial operations in the Town, including but not limited to developing and overseeing the annual budget, preparing and administering the Town’s payroll, and processing claims. The Clerk/Treasurer works closely with the mayor to ensure the administration and day-to-day operations of the Town function efficiently and effectively.
Working under the direction of the Mayor, the Clerk/Treasurer operates the Town’s accounting systems in compliance with state and federal regulations. This role is also responsible for organizing audits and annual financial reporting, while serving as the primary financial advisor to the mayor, and town council. The Clerk/Treasurer plays an active role in shaping policy and decision-making, ensuring that the Town’s resources are managed responsibly and transparently. The Clerk/Treasurer serves as custodian of official Town records and public documents; performs certification and recording for the Town as required on legal documents and other records requiring such certification; seals and attest by signature to ordinances, resolutions, contracts, easements, deeds, bonds or other documents requiring town certification; catalogs and files all town records; attends regular and special town council meetings; oversees or performs an accurate recording of the proceedings, preparation of the minutes with proper legislative terminology, recording, indexing and filing for the public record; distributes information as requested and prepares and distributes agendas, materials, minutes, and records of meetings.
We are especially interested in candidates with municipal accounting experience in Montana who have a strong background in payroll, claims, budgeting, or a combination of the three and record keeping. Training can be provided through relevant online courses and in person attendance at annual Clerk’s Institute training and other seminars and conventions.
The Town of Circle has a population of approximately 600 residents and operates on an annual budget of $2-3 million with additional grant and loan funding of $6 million for waterline replacement and water treatment plant updates, has 5 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee.
